Soy milk is used as a milk replacement for people who are allergic to cows milk, although many people think that soy milk tastes sour.  Soybeans also contain a fair amount of protein so I believe they are in fact good for health.

The problem with soy is that in north america over 90% of soy products are GMO (untested long term health effects). Fermented soy products are generally OK unless you have a thyroid condition. They do have goitrogenic properties which means they slow your iodine absorption. Many asian dishes pair soy with iodine rich foods for this reason (iodine rich is most sea food or sea vegetables, seaweed etc).
