How to treat pinkeye - especially the "eye goop" in the mornings?

It's the end effects of a virus in the baby, so antibiotic drops are not going to help.  It doesn't hurt, but his eyes get gooped up overnight and he has trouble opening them.  I tried the warm washcloth to loosen the gunk - but he complains anything touching his skin on his face is "hot" and throws a fit.  (he's 3)  Anything I can do to naturally to help with pinkeye? or just ride it out?

Viral conjuncitivitis, or pink eye, has to run its course. Antibiotic drops are not effective against the viral form of this illness. Cleaning the goop out of the eyes is necessary, since during the night, the eye cleans itself with tears. So this gunk needs to be removed. Warm wash clothes are the best option, however lid scubs (medicated pads that gently scrub the lids and eyelashes) can be effective as well. They can be found at your local pharmacy and are in the isle with eye drops and other products for the eyes. Pink eye typically only lasts about a week to 10 days. There are antiviral drops, but they haven't proven to be that effective. Flushing the eye with en eye wash or saline rinse will also help eliminate some of the discharge.

I've heard beastmilk does wonders. May not have any though at 3. Some drops with an eyedropper or just hose him down. Won't hurt anything.

For pink eyes with gluing of eyelashes in the morning in a 3 year old child, whwt I suggest is clean both eyes gently with boiled cotton swabs till the discharge gets cleaned out. Put antibiotic eye drops and ointment and lubricant eye gel. You may also use Naphazoline eye drops. The pink eye will get cleared in a couple of days. CONTINUE TREATMENT FOR ONE WEEK.
