This question could have many answers. The retina, the membrane that lines the back wall of the eye, can be scarred in several ways: by diseases such as toxoplasmosis or histoplasmosis, by laser treatments for leaky blood vessels, AMD, autoimmune diseases, etc. Scarring is the body's attempt at healing an injury, but without knowing more specific detail, it's difficult to give a definition or description of scarring behind the eye.
