Were any of your children a "surprise"?

Our fifth child was a surprise -- I did not even realize I had begun ovulating from my previous pregnancy.  We conceived our surprise when our then youngest was 11 months -- because I was still breastfeeding, I had not started my menstrual cycle.  We are so glad he is a part of our family -- he is such a joy.  Were any of your children a surprise? smile

All three of my children were a surprise in their own way.

My first son was a surprise- but not the kind of surprise you probably have in mind.  I was going about my business, living my life, and not particularly planning to adopt a baby; when a beautiful little baby boy came into my life and needed a mother.   I just adored him, so that was it.

My younger son was a surprise in that he was born six weeks early and in about an an hour and a half.

My daughter was a surprise when she was a completely different looking baby (than her brother (the one I gave birth to six weeks early), but also when she turned out to be a girl. I guess I was expecting "another one just like the one before her" or else "another adorable little son, like the "little set of boys" that I already had.

All three were a surprise in what an absolute joy it was (and still is) to have each of them, but also to have all three of them as my children.

All three (now grown) continue to be a surprise as I continue to discover the different aspects of being the parent of grown sons and a daughter.

One way or another, children have their way of being surprises.   smile

My fifth was as well. We had decided our family was complete, but I couldn't permanently close that door. We used natural family planning, and never had any trouble spacing our kids how we wanted, except with her we had a slip up smile
And of course like most surprises, I couldn't imagine my life without her. She's got everyone- esp her 4 brothers- wrapped around her finger.

Both really.  I had an ectopic pregnancy and so we finally decided to adopt. Then during that process I got pregnant with our first child.  The second child was unplanned and also a surprise as I had been bleeding and did not think I was pregnant--then a doctor told me I was pregnant but having a miscarriage. That miscarriage is now a delightful 27 year old daughter that is one of the two best things that ever happened to us.  Doctors don't know everything!
