Is it possible for a child to suddenly become allergic to animals?

We got a new dog this week. We had two already. Since getting the dog my 17 mth old has developed a rash on her face and behind her ears. She has a Dr. Appt. Friday but curious if it is possible for a child to suddenly develop allergies to a dog.

I was told allergies to pets are often actually an allergy to the pet's dander instead of the animal itself

Please, quickly have the dog checked for fungus. If the dog has a fungus, it can be easily cured, but if left untreated it is a danger to your whole household. We had a dog that was born with a fungus from his mother. We took him to three different vets before he was diagnosed.

Yes you can develop an allergy any time in your life. Its never the first peanut its always, the 15 or 20th one. I hope that you have figured this out by now, and that your daughter is well.
