Does anyone have TMJ (temperomandibular joint) problems?

Have you tried anything that has worked to relieve your symptoms?

I wear a bite guard that I grind on all night.  I have done physical therapy and stretches.  Also, I had massage done of the lateral pterygoids.  I recommend the first to protect your teeth.  I recommend the last as it cleared my TMJ for a few days.  My jaw wasn't slipping at all after the trigger points were released.  That being said, it was agonizing having it done!  My throat itched, my eyes were streaming... but then for a week I had no joint slippage!

I try to be nice to mine and make sure not to tire it too much.  It doesn't lock like it used to when I was younger.  Also, headaches don't seem to emanate as much from that area as they did pre-treatment.  Oh - Elavil seems to help as well.

Because many other conditions can cause similar symptoms to TMD – including a toothache, sinus problems, arthritis, or gum disease – your dentist will conduct a careful patient history and physical examination to determine the cause of your symptoms.

My mother had it; she went to some specialist for a few weeks where she received shots in her jaw and now her symptoms have been gone for the past 3 years.
