Do you, every day, make a conscious effort to better your life?

Do you, every day, make a conscious effort to better your life?

In my all of my experiences and observations, people who consciously attempt to better their lives by improving the lives and raising the happiness level of others lead the most satisfying lives.  This is how I live my life and I just got to thinking, how many other people are there out there who do the same.

I do, since I've met my girlfriend, who believes in God with her entire heart. She told me about how much joy it give you if you're helping people when they are in need. Even if she doesn't like a person, she won't hesitate to help.

I'm in a relationship with her for about seven months now and I have to say she was right about it. I started off slowly by helping people who were in dire need. But now I enjoy helping people whenever I can. Even if at first sight someone is doing ok, I'll ask if he/she needs any help. The pleasure of helping people is just so addicting, when you've started, there's no holding back.

When people are thankful, and you see them smile, your heart just melts. I've got to say, that's the most amazing feeling that you can ever imagine.

So... this was my experience, if you want, go ahead and tell us your stories.

To give a full answer, I'd need an opportunity to dialog back and forth more than this Question section allows.

For example, I would like to ask how you mean 'improving the lives of others.' Could you be more specific, and give examples?

In my experience, I cannot raise the happiness level of others, as happiness is always each person's own responsibility. One's level of happiness arises from the way of responding to life.

I can and do reach out to neighbors and people on the street, acknowledge them, show interest, give a helping hand when needed. Without trying to be an example, my own behavior gives an example of another way to respond to challenges.

Bettering my own life comes as an outgrowth of my inner work. When I 'look to the roots' of my issues such as boredom, discontent or distress, there is always a choice to let go of old habits and thought patterns and discover a fresh approach. Yes, I consciously look inside each day, and make adjustments!

    It is a great question.
