don't eat within three hours of bedtime. avoid high fat meals (fat opens the valve [sphincter] that keeps acid in the stomach and out of the esophagus). avoid caffeine, chocolate, alcohol, mint,  and spicy or acid 9citrus, tomato) foods. eating small meals and avoiding large amounts of liquid with meals can help, too.

outside of diet, other non-prescription measures are quitting smoking and elevating the head of your bed 6 inches.

Food combining. This means not eating starch with protein, and eating fruit on an empty stomach.

If you are careful about what you eat, you can pretty much eat anything that some tell you not to. For instance, if you eat it on an empty stomach, you can eat pineapple, or banana, or any fruit that you would usually have a problem with.

Also, you need to eat as naturally as possible - so fruits and veggies are great. Processed foods are really bad.

And don't eat about 3 hours before bed time.

Eating natural foods in balance is the best diet for acid reflux. A diet high in vegetables and fruits (yet balanced with protein and healthy fats) will keep the body's PH in balance. Usually acid reflux comes with a diet high in pre-packaged, processed, and refined foods with lots of sugars and empty carbohydrates.
