I do think smiling is contagious. When someone smiles at me I can't help but smile back at them.

Yes, I definitely think that smiles are contagious.

When in the mall, if I see a woman looking like she is miserable, I
will comment that her: blouse, shoes, hand bag or even her nail polish
is lovely.  I say it with sincerity.  It takes only a few seconds and most
always brings a smile to her face.

I am a woman and appreciate any kind comment.

Smiles are free; give away as many as you can!!
    DJ.

I think so, because when in public I try to catch the eye of most of the people that I'm facing and give them a smile, and most times it seems to work.

Yes, this anonymous poem's sentiment is generally true and the person who can't return a smile is the person who needs it most!

    SMILING

    Smiling is infectious,
you catch it like the flu.
When someone smiled at me today
    I started smiling too.

    I passed around the corner,
    and someone saw my grin.
    When he smiled I realized,
I'd passed it on to him.

    I thought about that smile,
    then I realized its worth.
A single smile just like mine,
    could travel round the earth.

So, if you feel a smile begin,
    don't leave it undetected.
    Let's start an epidemic quick,
    and get the world infected!

I do believe smiling is contagious.  When you make eye contact with someone and give a genuine smile it almost always comes back to you in return.  In that exchange of smiles there seems to be a brief connection or wordless communication that sends out positive vibes.  Somehow your day gets a little brighter with a smile!

I say smiling is really contagious. There is a concept in social psychology called facial feedback hypothesis which roughly says that when you smile, you and your social environment is likely to take a positive attitude. smile
