Is dreaming an important part of sleep, for your health?
When you sleep, activity continues to occur, at the cellular level, in the brain. Dreams and REM (rapid eye movement) happens in one's sleep. Is this dream activity important, or is it just idle activities? Why do you think it does make a difference, or, it does not make a difference?
I believe that dreaming is the brain's way of trying to process certain types of information from our daily lives. It is the way our subconscious orders our memories and makes sense of a situation. Even if we are not aware of our dreams, they are likely to have happened anyway, and are an important part of our neural processes. I think they are probably most important to our mental health, and as such are a vital part of our life, even when we don't know they are happening.
I advise readers to read your post carefully. It is on the money, and has useful information contained in it for understanding brain function. Very good, sarahmoose.
I usually dream every night. I have some off-the-wall dreams too, and it puzzles me where some of that activity comes in, especially when they had nothing to do with my conscious thoughts. It also seems strange to have dreams that seem so real to where I can either wake up afraid or mad. I would love to know if they make a difference.
I like the way you talk about you dreams, and I like the way you honestly contemplate, that is study, your dreams. You also ask a good question, "I would love to know if they make a difference." Actually, dream research is an ongoing process, still.
I would definitely love to learn more, Dr. Haddox. If you have any great resources on this, please let me know. Thanks.
