Why do some men as they age reaching the late 60's get belligerent and nasty to their family ?

Finding fault with everything, losing interest in everyday tasks, constantly making excuses that they can't perform minimal job duties out/ or help because they are to old...

That is also a sign of Alzheimer's or dementia ...the getting mean part.

aaahh you correct, however tests have ruled that dx out..
So there has to be something else going on, chemical imbalance perhaps ?

Sometimes diabetes can cause this, have they been checked for sugar?

Could it be depression? Irritability is a common symptom which can be seen as meanness. Or possibly a late or never resolved midlife crisis. I did a hub about men and midlife crisis. Sixty is the new 40 for some so it could be that, especially if other medical diagnoses have been ruled out.

I have seen this in those that suffer from Alzheimer's, but I have also seen just the opposite symptoms in those that have the disease. It could be another physical problem, such as poor diet or general malaise. I would suggest a physical checkup with a doctor is in order for a definite determination.

    Hi KJ.
Maybe it´s depression, it certainly sounds like it might be.
