Why do you feel some people place more importance on being confident than being knowledgeable?
I'm interested in varying perspectives - we seem to be so frequently carried by confident, unambiguous information by people in our culture over scientific and evidence-based information, as if they were equal in weight. Why is that? Are we so uncomfortable with not knowing, we prefer to believe in the concreteness of a person's views, even if it's possible they may not know what they're talking about?
Oh yeah. Some people take comfort in the "sales pitch", or just feel trendy in following whatever idea is pop at the moment, that they don't think for themselves. Confident speaking and the ability to sway has merit, but when we give away our common sense and objective thinking we set ourselves up to be exploited.
