Realise that you actually want contentment in life not happiness, & then go off & find a job, hobbies, passions, place to live, a partner, all that you love, not like, but love..That could take many years, but as long as your heading towards it you will feel some what content already..Honestly buddy people who strive to be happy are just people who haven't realised, that  their actually looking for contentment..Which means doing what they love doing, & is a far higher state than happiness..It takes a lot of effort to do all the things that you love doing, even to find them takes massive effort but it's worth it because they are out there waiting for you.

I agree with Daveadam.  Happiness is elusive- it is connected with our circumstances and our perceptions of them. I'm not happy if... l have an old car, don't live in a big house, didn't get accepted to the college I wanted, etc. Contentment is a state of mind that can be developed under many different kinds of circumstances and is of much greater value to you than mere happiness.

& i agree with you Alise..Happiness is only ever temporary, whilst contentment is permanent..I mean how many people go off chasing & desiring what other people have, because they think other people are happy, b4 they ask themselves: what do "
