Most times regrets are a waste of time and energy because you can't go back and undo anything. You're simply torturing yourself reliving the experience over and over again.
Ideally one should learn from a mistake and not dwell on it.
Your future lies ahead of you and not behind you.
It takes courage to turn the page & go to the next chapter in your life.
Regret is the desire to undo your past mistakes. It's not a waste of time. It is a waste of time if you dwell in regret when there are more important things to do. If not, regret to your hearts content and accept the feeling because you only get one life and if your past mistakes can help you to make wise decisions in the future, then that is good for you.
Regrets are actually good. When you regret something it means you realize you have done something wrong and wish you hadn't done it. However wallowing in regret and it's possible companion self-pity is a waste of time. Having regrets is OK but they should be used to take better decisions in future.
The gist of all the answers is the same. One cannot change the past, only learn from it and move forward. Dwelling in past regrets only ruins the present and future often rendering one incapable of progress. By allowing this to continue, one is consenting to being a victim of fear. Let go and be empowered!
