Ever since I recovered from a life threatening illness, I'm just happy to be alive.

I believe happiness comes about through gratitude.  Being grateful for the people in our lives, the things we currently have and the memories of the people and things we have lost.

I know this may get some people up in arms who believe they have nothing to be happy for, but I think there is confusion in this way of thinking.

First to clarify, I do not believe we should ever be happy with our "lot". I think desire for "more" or for "better" is a healthy state to be in and is one of the ways creativity is nurtured and developed.  The desire for more can be a powerful motivational tool and should be encouraged.

I think however, happiness in the "here and now" is about being in a state of gratefulness for what we do have, no matter how small or little that may be.  An old coat to keep you warm on a cold day is something to be greatful for, it doesn't mean we wouldn't like a new coat however, but if we are grateful for the coat, how can we not be happy at that moment?

I think sometimes we can get caught up believing we can only be happy when we get this or that, but we will always want more anyway, so that kind of means we will always be chasing hapiness, where as if we look around us and be grateful for what we have now we can find hapiness "now".

    Be happy!

    Happiness is loving with abandon.
It's running 3 minutes more than you thought you could bear.  It's your favorite dessert, feet up, arms stretched under a patch of sun.

Happiness is finding yourself reflected in someone and feeling understood.

It's about remembering the safety of being tucked in at age 2.

It's the ocean.  How can anything seem so finite with something so limitless before you?..
