Do you think it is possible to have a non-commercial Christmas in today's consumer society?

    If not, why not?

Absolutely. Just insulate yourself from and ignore the commercialism. Of course, your family will also have to be on board.

Christmas is commercialized because of people's need, so if you cut off such needs (with the support of the people around you of course) then it is definitely possible.

To me, it is a choice, not a "what if" question smile

I think it is possible for sure! I beleive that all it takes is one person to share their thoughts on what and how they feel about christmas. Telling people you do not need nor want material things but would rather something from the heart (baked goods, homemade card or just a nice sit down meal) can start the ball rolling. I enjoyed the way christmas use to be and plan on enjoying a traditional christmas where i bake my homemade montreal pies and bake cookies and tarts. I believe it can be done it just takes people to share that they do not want the commercial christmas but would rather the traditional christmas.

Its a materialistic world and thus celebrating a non commercial Christmas is probably not possible. With loads of gifts on the net, one always wants to give the best to his or her loved ones. To see them smile instantly we need to choose one displayed.
But probably its only possible with children and kids where the consumer society has not yet affected to so much. Small children sometimes prefers to play and run around and have fun and does not always thrive for rich gifts. In a time like Christmas they love that their parents are at home and spending time together with them more than the fact that they are buying them rich gifts because they are too small to understand the worth of it.
