Which is more fun : Attending holiday festivities or hosting ? Support your  position.

Preferences will be subjective here so try to include parameters such as with friends, with family or additional clues so we are comparing apples to apples and all that.

It depends on the group size and occasion. With close family it MAY be fun to host. But it is always more fun to attend an elaborate affair and go home at the end, stress and hassle free. so my vote goes to 'more fun to attend'.

    Or maybe I'm just lazy!

It all depends on the kind of person. personally, i love doing the hosting, it gives me a sense of pride.

I have a tendency to enjoy the comforts of home. I like sitting in my own comfy chair, knowing exactly where everything is when i reach for it, and being able to blow up my bathroom when ever I need. Without worry of the affect on the plants my host has perched upon the vanity.
I try to be a considerate host and have plenty of food and beverages for everyone. While I can't always hit the bullseye and please everyone, as a host it is certainly important that every person who enters my home feels like both a guest and family.
Family- means they are welcome to come in, sit back, and know that should they fart or burp they are more likely to receive a laugh than as escort to the door. Of course this depends on whether all the windows must be opened in the winter time just to maintain an acceptable oxygen level.
If Grandma is keeled over in the chair, all the dogs are looking at you with accusing stares and I am looking for respirators...you may be asked to step outside while we remodel...
All this aside, if it is family, I want to entertain. There is nothing (IMO) like waking up early on the holidays and preparing a large breakfast for those whom you love. Sitting together, drinking the first cup of coffee and smiling together as the sun begins to peek out beyond the horizon.
In the morning my children will awaken and want to open gifts,,,,it's Christmas Eve. Extended family will make this morning another worthy of the digital photo frame I already know I am receiving. And the first pictures will be of those I love, with smiling faces, beaming eyes, and a mess to clean up behind. LOL

I cherish my visits with friends and will likely attend festivities away from home this New years. There I can indulge in being a guest. They keep trying to get me to accept the title "family" whenever I attend a function. I felt special at first, like I had received acceptance outside the norm by virtue of all our years together, everything we had weathered, and the grey hair we had caused one another. Nope, they wanted someone to wash dishes.....

I love to have people over.  You can decorate and prepare a menu your guests will enjoy.  Then, you get to watch them come to your home and enjoy.  Yes, it's a lot of work.  However, it's for the joy of others which makes it more enjoyable.
