Well, this isn’t really my best memory, but it’s my last memory of my mother. She passed away several years ago. Cancer.

I see you live in FL. My parents lived in Zephyrhills as does my sister and her family. We knew my mother was going to die, but we thought she had several more months. I had planned to visit the following month, but I get a call from my sister and she said you better get down here quick, Mom isn’t going to last much longer.

I didn’t want to fool around with making flight arrangements at that point. I jumped in my vehicle and drove straight from PA to FL, pretty fast. Just outside of Zephyrhills in this little town, the speed limit changes from 50 to 35 real quick. Your typical speed trap. So the cop pulls me over and asks, “Is there some reason why you are going so fast?” I replied, “My mother is dying and I’m trying to get there before she passes.” He wrote me a ticket and said, “You prove what you told me and I’ll tear up the ticket.” I later did and he did.

So I get to my parents and my mother is still alive and coherent. She was real happy to see me and we had a great talk. Then she went into a coma, never regained consciousness, and passed away a few hours later.

Obviously I’m thinking about her today as I’m sure everyone is whose mother is no longer with us.

Love this.  What a compassionate police officer and what a wonderful chance to see your mom one last time.  Glad you made it.
