    The Marine Corps has a wonderful collection yearly for children in need.  You can go to a local recruiters office and find out when and where their donation boxes will be set up.  Also, biker organizations run a huge toy run at Christmas time.  Shelters for abused women with children need donations as well.  You can only get their information through the local police department as these are 'safe houses'.  I bet you may even know of a family in your neighborhood who is living on a small budget.  Be a secret santa for them.  If you have school aged children you can talk with the principal and they can advise you too who are needy in your area.  This just may be a great idea to have some of the school clubs get involved with.

    In my area there is "Toys for Tots", they put up bins in banks or stores for people to donate a new toy. Also the Children's Hospital always takes donations of stuffed animal/toys for the children staying there.

    World vision is a great one. Often what you give will be matched. Some of the gifts you give may impact a family or child for their whole lives, help them to sustain themselves.
