Personally, I never, ever go near a store on Black Friday but I do check out Amazon.com and a couple of other online retailers. I've done most of my Christmas shopping online for years. Less stress, stuff is delivered right to my door and all I have to do is wrap it up and wait for the big day-- leaves me more time to enjoy friends and family, decorate my house and cook cook cook.
You can find most ads scanned online before they are actually released in the newspaper. This is great because you can search through them and plan exactly what items you want, from each store. Make a list of everything and it should make your Black Friday shopping much easier. Also, this year it seems as if stores aren't just selling a few of each hot item. Most of the stores will be completely stocked, so you shouldn't have a problem purchasing the item you want. Standing in the long lines the night before not only will waste your time, usually by the time its your turn in the store, the items are sold out, and not restocked quickly. Overall, I think your best bet is to go early in the morning anywhere Friday between 6-9am. You shouldn't have to fight lines outside of the store, and the items you are interested in should be stocked and available.
I stay home. Black Friday is not worth the trouble of getting out of bed.
