Does your family have any special traditions in preparing for Santa?
'Twas the night before Christmas....every Christmas Eve, my children make reindeer food and place it in a large bowl and have another bowl for water. We place these on the sidewalk in front of our house, since we live in Florida and no snow for Santa to land on the roof (at least that's how my kids see it). We also set out cookies and milk, hang our stockings, and they put their Christmas letter to Santa near the cookies. We'll also read the Christmas Story from the Bible so they will always remember the real reason for Christmas.
As a child, growing up in rural Texas, there was a tradition in our community where, when we met someone on the road, or elsewhere away from home, we tried to be the first to say CHRISTMAS GIFT honoring the age old belief that it is better to give than to receive. It always created a laughing happy greeting as to neighbors tried to beat one another to give the greeting. I miss it. Robert Hewett Sr.
My kids leave a paper plate with a few carrots on it on our front step "for Santa's reindeer."
