Check out this article about World Letter Writing Day (Sept 1st) by Deborah Osadjere.
I always loved writing hand written letters, and still do it occasionally. This is a good occasion to write one or two.

Thanks for posting this article, John. It's a shame that the art of letter writing has decreased in the face of modern communication.

Wonderful article Deborah. It reminds me of a wonderful quote by philosopher Blaise Pascal who spoke about the joy of writing letters,

"If I had more time I would write a shorter letter."

    Thanks John for sharing.

Thank you for sharing this interesting and thought-provoking article, John. I used to have a lovely letter exchange with my godmother in Britain before she died. Christmas cards from my relatives sometimes include letters as well, but I mostly correspond with relatives and distant friends via email or social media comments. It’s nice to maintain the connection in any form, but I do notice the tendency for us all to be brief in electronic communication. Perhaps everyone is thinking that it would be easy to contact each other again electronically. There’s something special about a long letter, even today.

Yes, Linda. I am the same. there are a few older relatives that I correspond with by letter, but that is becoming less frequent. Email, messenger etc is just too easy. I miss the day of writing or reading a letter of five or six pages.
