Everyday's a Birthday
Introduction
I really am a very fortunate man. I have been incredibly blessed by a woman who, like a pearl of great prize, has often gone unrewarded and under-appreciated. Like many women she deserves more romance in her life from the man who spent untold hours wooing her during their "courtship."
Well, I am a guy after all, you know, a martian whose romantic antennae dies off after conquering his prize. I hated it when the Venetian said that but, after reviewing our time together I had to recognize she, once again, was right! So partially out of gratitude for putting up with me, but mostly because it accurately expresses how I feel about her and our relationship, I wrote this poem to my wife, Sophia, on her birthday.
Okay, so today isn't her birthday. My intent here is simply to celebrate the life of my best friend and a woman whom I hold in the highest esteem, one who has unwittingly taught me more than she can even know. She deserves so much more and I hope I can contribute to that fulfillment! Happy Every Day, Sophia! This is for you!

Blending With Nature
Symbol of Change
It's Not Just Another Day!
Today marks the day you were born
So special in fact that all of nature is celebrating.
No ordinary card would do
So the universe and I collaborated
We dare to remind you that life is different without you
Though praise falls quietly like a leaf
What is spoken is not without truth
and is here to silently touch you.
The wind knows who you are as do the trees,
Both consider you in ways like no others
We call out to you for we need what you have
And in your mystical way you respond.
The day you were born was different than today
Our spirits grow because of it.
You may not see it that way at times
But you cannot see through our eyes.
You say there is much we do not know
How true, but we know more because you breathe.
The universe knows you in another form
Energy foreign to your friends.
But the rocks know you
They tell a story you recognize,
And are often as misunderstood.
Still, the universe celebrates your birth.
It is our choice to be grateful for your life
For it is not without meaning.
Light through a prism is bent
The refraction beautifies its intention
We would not be who we are
If you are not who you are
The universe rejoices in what is
As we do
What has been, has been sometimes hard
more difficult than a walk in the rain
But like the rain, your life nourishes us
Nurturing is you, you are cause for celebration!
