Pinterest can help bring traffic to your blogs, hubs etc. When used right Pinterest can make your work more lucrative, but you can't just pin a few things here and there and expect it to work. I have hundreds of followers on Pinterest because I have great, diverse boards and I pin all kinds of interesting things. Less than 5% are probably to my own work.
Most of my well performing hubs are that way because of people who pin my stuff on there when they read my hubs. If you have compelling images and great content, people will pin it. This is especially true for things like how-to's, saving money, recipes, etc. more than anything else.
These days I'm focusing my whole "strategy" on creating shareable, social media content over trying to appease Google.
