I always enjoyed Shel Silverstein growing up.

Forest Stearns does some amazing work though, as well.

As an adult I have read every book written by Brian Jacques for children (The Redwall Series) My grandchildren love them too. Then for young teenagers - (again enjoyed thoroughly by myself as an adult - Rosemary Sutciffe and Henry Treece who both wrote novels about Roman Britain and the Vikings. Wonderful !

Eric Carle and Mary Englebreit.  I think they both are so unique and interesting to look at!

My favorite children's book illustrator is the young woman, Julie Parker, who illustrated MY book, "Lucky, the Left-Pawed Puppy".  I found her, along with 17 other artists on craigslist! (Believe it or not).  I summarized my story and asked for bids. I received sooo many wonderful artist submissions of their websites or samples of how they perceived my little "Lucky" who saves the day in his own leftpawed way.  Julie's website is at http://www.julieillustration.co.uk/ and I would highly recommend her for anyone who has a children's story that needs an illustrator. Important note: If you are NOT self-publishing and are going the traditional route, submit your story without an illustrator, unless you yourself are the artist.  I did self-publish and I'm gratified that my little story came to life with the expert interpretation of my story by Julie!
