I didn't and my earnings - such as they are - come up in pounds (albeit, not yet a whole one).
You should be fine declaring the fact that you're an English writer.
If you were asking this about Kindle, then I would say you'd have trouble, as writing for that doesn't yet extend to the UK market unless you're a published author.
I'll second Nick's answer. UK writer here, no problem with adsense - just shows up in pounds.
Just wish they'd pay more lol;-)
