. What does your name say about you?
I often wondered if my name was the best choice for me, or maybe my parents should have chosen another name... so wha does your name say about us.
parents use all sorts of thought processes to name their children. should we name boys after their father, or grandfather? so we can have juniors, or firsts, seconds or thirds? my brother was name Allan Thomas, Jr. should we pick unique names? should we pick names that have special meanings? ie my sister's middle name was Ilee, because my father lost a brother named Ivan Lee, who died at such a young age, he could only call himself Ilee. Common family names are also incorporated. I married into a whole slew full of Thomas'. Each with their own unique middle name.
When it came to naming my children, i wanted a name that would fit in at a fast food restaurant or as a lawyer or business man. So plain as the come, Robert(after a war hero uncle of my husband's family) Henry(derivative of Henrich, his paternal great grandfather, who came over on the boat). Claudia( my husband's choice, unfortunately i agreed, and found out later that it meant lame one) Rose( because it was the american name, Uncle Bob's japanese wife had) and for the last child? Sandra( I had never met a Sandra that I did not like) and Kay ( after my sister).
names are only that. parents choose them for their children. Maybe that is what pen names are for, to allow yourself to do the choosing... i don't think i really answered your question, but know this... no parent just names their children, it is thought out and carefully chosen, for the hope in it.
my mom once told me that she chose my name because she had known someone by the same name and she thought this woman was beautiful, inside and out. She chose all of my siblings names for similar reasons....
I think people choose names that resonate emotions or fond memories of people once loved or admired. Do you like your name? I get the impression that you would choose another for yourself...if so, what name would you choose for yourself? p.s. I like the picture you chose for this question!
I was told by my father that they choose my name for a reason, i was born premature, and the doctors told my parents that i wouldn't make it to morning, my father took a looked into my eyes, and said "who do they think there are God?
There was an old lady who lived about five blocks up the street who was about 100 years old... and according to my father a light when off in his head... and a voice told him to name me Annie, that was the name of the old lady.
so, here i am today alive and well, so what does your name say about you.
my said a long full life...
