How do you motivate yourself to write?

I'm trying to find ways to motivate myself to write more. Does anyone use specific techniques or methods to get themselves in the writing 'zone'? Or do you just write when inspiration strikes?

Just write any old rubbish, you can sort it out once you get going.

Just write about whatever is on your mind: A person with a full bladder does not have to get motivated to run to the bathroom.  Writing is the same.  Get your thoughts out on paper.

A painter paints things, a baker bakes things, so a writer writes things.  Write often and you will write well...And write like the gingerbread man runs.  The inspiration aspect of it is a myth.  Keep a journal or diary and read what you aspire to write.  Do this and great things will happen.  I promise.

@Dohn121: That is a brilliant response. I've never thought about it that way, but you're right. I get ideas for hubs on an almost daily basis, so I guess if I just jot it jot it down I'll never run out of ideas. Thank you for the tips!
