How would one write a paper on urban legends from a sociological perspective?
Try googling this "urban legends that had a sociological impact". Lots of supportive stuff pops up. It's up to you to weed through it.
Urban legends (or more accurately- contemporary legends) are a sociologically fascinating aspect of humanity. Plenty of work has been done on their origin and spread following epidemiological models not dissimilar to diseases. A myth or urban legend spreads on the back of humanity's need to gossip and spread information and the need to believe and defy skeptics. I suppose if you're writing a paper you're looking for new angles and twists to an old tale. Perhaps the spread of urban legends in the Internet age and their life expectancy could be one angle... Best wishes.
Urban legends are often modern myths. Since sociology looks at events from a social perspective, you would examine the urban legend from such a viewpoint. Look at how the myth helps or hinders the society in which it occurs. Look at what keeps the legend in circulation. Look at what that myth says about the local society and its values. These are just a few ways to get such a paper started.

Anyone have any urban legends based on where they're from? I just wrote a hub about some from my part of the world, and in that spirit, I like to know about other urban legends from your part of the world!
