Do you believe all fictional stories share the same story structure?
I have no training or anything , so my answer may be kinda nuts. I,ve attempted to write some stories with no great success. Most, I never finished. But, My best results were when I wrote the story backwards. Having the ending in mind , then figuring the best way to get there was better than trying to create an ending that fit the story. I have read many Stephen King books which I enjoyed; except the last 50 pages. His endings are awful. Trust me, I'm no Stephen King, but some of my endings to HIS stories are better than his.
I know that the US mythologist, Joseph Campbell, suggested that every story, whatever the genre, whenever it was written, tells the same story. So it would seem logical that they all follow the same structure.
I think it is something about the hero finding his place in society, it has been a very long time since I read his book so I'm not sure about thaat.
