Do you believe that our writing is modeled after, or motivated, by others in the poetic world?

I have read many great poets work in the past and only until recently became reacquainted with some..Do you feel that we sometimes emulate or write as a beloved poet may have done?

i think most writers' styles are certainly influenced by their favorites, while the best will always find their own voices along the way.  as far as motivation, i can't read anything by charles bukowski without immediately wanting to write a few things of my own.   :-)

One of my favorites is Rudyard Kipling. and Longfellow and Frost have had their effects as well.
