    The legendary CSNY song.. Ohio

"Tin soldiers and Nixon's coming, we're finally on our own,
This summer I hear the drumming
    Four dead in Ohio"

I, too, like this song.  It is one that I like to play for my sociology students to illustrate how music reflects social opinions.

I guess I'm a throwback to the 60's, and the hippie-flower-child I never had the courage to be back then....I'm partial to "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?"

I like both CSNY's "Ohio" and Pete Seeger (with added verses by Peter, Paul, & Mary), "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" a lot.

But my favorite is Buffalo Springfield's "Stop, hey, what's that sound / everybody look what's goin' down."

I don't actually know many protest songs, except the ones already mentioned  - but I've just written one myself so I guess I could call it my favorite (though biased!).
I'll be posting it as a Hub soon, but here's a sample of the lyrics:

...make some noise, for a silenced voice,
For the weak who long for their word,
For the ones who cry, beaten down by lies,
For the ones without rights to be heard...

...Worlds go round, but the trumpets sound
For ears that are tuned to the times,
For an equal chance, for all who dance,
With freedom scratched on the signs...
