The first one which comes to my mind is how to spell a word correctly.

A curse or a hex but I'm in an odd state of mind today...

First thought: Being under some kind of hex; possessed or drunk by something or someone.

I thought of a magic spell and about a millisecond later how you spell a word.

Elementary school. The days of "brave writing" when children spelled words as they thought they might be. "I wint to halp mommy witz deshs aftur dinur."
...Lol. Little kids spell so cute.

Oops! I didn't read the question correctly. Oh well, I still like my answer even though it doesn't necessarily apply.

    It's also
    a) a sliver/splinter of wood (that get's into your skin when you've handled old furniture or when you've handled logs or other old/untreated wood); .
    b) a short period of time, e.g: 'I'm off to the country for a spell, to get a lungful of fresh air'.
[Ref  : 'The Concise Oxford Dictionary', ninth edn. 1996]
    Any more takers?

Hypnotized followed by the word "enchanted".
"She has you under her spell". To be spellbound is to be entranced.

To write or name the letters in a correct sequence and in an effort to form a word.

    This quote may help.

    "Spelling, the lossed art."

The very first thing that came to mind is a song by Credence Clearwater Revival - I Put a Spell On You.

Next, is as Alancaster149 offered with a familiar saying of me when working, which is "Let's rest a spell".

And, then in thought order is its use with grammar such as "How do you spell that?" I usually offer a humorous retort, although makes no sense, "with salt and pepper". Why? I simply dun'no . . .

Spell as in spelling bee. Although right after that spell as in a magic spell came to mind.
