Do you have any wise words to share?
Quotes, Sayings, are meant to inspire us. For example -
Call your family often.
Each day give something good to others.
Forgive everyone for everything.
Do you have any others you can share with us?
If you can't say something good about a person; don't say anything at all.
writerchuck
Thank you Writer Chuck. So many of us grew up with that saying and it is a good one. Thank you for reminding us.
My sister speaks of yours...if I may offer a quote about bringing back tenderness.."one sees well with the heart what is essentially invisible to the eyes"..Antoine de Saint Expiry
"In the beginning, the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has widely been considered as a bad move."
-- Douglas Adams, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"
"Ruling a kingdom is like frying a small fish."
- Sun Tsu, The Art of War
Hi dohn121, thank you for adding to our treasure-chest of quotes. I am fascinated by your submission, but do not yet understand it. Maybe a little explanation could make it more useful ?
Not a problem MarieLB! If you ever tried "frying a small fish" you'll know that it's a delicate and finicky feat: Use too much heat in haste and you'll overcook or burn it. However, if you use good judgement and patience you'll no doubt succeed!
Thank you so much dohn121. Now that makes perfect sense. Let us hope that our authorities know and abide by these wise words.
"Love is the yearning of the One for the One."- Sri Aurobindo.
"The Soul in man is greater than his fate." - Sri Aurobindo.
"Remember, not the Soul for nature, but Nature for the Soul." - Vivekananda.
God: "I do not wish you to be attached to me, but to be devoted to Me."
"The disciple loves the man the Principle, forgetting the Principle within the man." - Vivekananda.
"Try not to change the world, you will fail. Try to Love the world. Lo! The world is changed, changed forever." - Sri Chinmoy
"That which makes you weak, reject like poison." - Vivekananda.
"When Peace is multiplied, Truth is multiplied. When Truth is multiplied, Love is multiplied. When Love is multiplied, God is multiplied." - Sri Chinmoy.
"God descends from above, to treasure my Heart and not my house." - Sri Chinmoy.
"Be kind, be all sympathy, for each and every human being, is forced to fight against himself."- Sri Chinmoy.
"It is an exceptional privilege, to have the beauty of a serene mind, the purity of a loving Heart and the divinity of a humble life." - Sri Chinmoy.
Manatita, what a treasure trove of wise sayings. Thank you for giving us so much to reflect upon. There is one I could not work out. It goes this way- "The disciple loves the man the Principle. . . ."
By nature humans become attached to their teachers, while forgetting the message of the teachers. They wish devotion from us, which is radically different from being attached, from using the Teacher as a crutch, Marie. Some do this with Christ.
With regard in the universe, be grateful. With regard to other people, be compassionate. With regard to yourself, be humble.
(This is my attempt to summarize the Tao Te Ching and what can loosely be called the spiritual life.)
“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”
-J.R.R Tolkien
“Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.”
-J.R.R Tolkien
"Democracy means government by the uneducated, while aristocracy means government by the badly educated."
-G.K Chesterton
"Don't ever take a fence down until you know the reason it was put up."
-G.K Chesterton
"Fallacies do not cease to be fallacies because they become fashions."
-G.K Chesterton
"Happiness is a mystery like religion, and should never be rationalized"
-G.K Chesterton
Opinions you hate are not hate speech, though calling it such lets you ignore their views and criticisms.
The Truth shines under examination and interrogation.
The Lie forbids question and examination.
The Truth seeks the light so that all can see.
The Lie hides in the shadow, claiming to be a mystery beyond our right to know.
Yes, I do. But it's up to you, the reader to say the words. After which you need to remain silent within your own mind for as long as you can.
Ready?
The words are: : I am.
What you experienced after those words and before the first verbal though occurs is not you. But in that silence the Observer waiting was and IS you- the REAL you.

I haven't any wise words but what I have found is the older I get the less I know which is odd when you are led to believe when "you grow up" you are suppossed to know everything!
The loss of 'Head' knowledge is no bad thing, T. Wisdom is the language of the Heart. My interactions with you tells me that you are doing well. Continue ...continue ...sing, pray...play some devotional music from the net ...serve ...all will be well
Whats a saying or quote that you presently find inspiring or comforting manatita44?
Three good principles in life:
'Look after your children and your grandchildren because they are your future,
Look after your parents because they are your past,
Look after yourself because you are the present.'

So many good posts, some excellent ones. There was humor [which I have enjoyed] and words that are very very deep. I cannot choose the Best Answer, because there is no such thing, as I am sure you all know.
But you have contributed so much in the way of wise advice, that I have copied them and printed them, so I will have them handy to read again and again.
Thank you all for taking the time to share.
