My hubs are actually translated poems from the Bengali poet Jibanananda Das. He was born in the Indian province of West Bengal. He wrote some amazing Bengali poems. I personally translated his poems into English. Because his poems are so uniquely Bengali, direct translation renderings fail.

I made the poems my own, when I translated them. I created this forum thread to pay my due homage to this great poet.

I do not know of him but of Rabindranath Tagore. I can sing his songs and of course he got the Nobel Peace prize. My favourite is naturally my spiritual teacher Sri Chinmoy, the Bengali visionary-Seer. You can read his works free on srichinmoylibrary.org. I will of course, check out your link. - Manatita

His works seem to be in Bengali. I sing in Bengali but do not speak it. Sri Chinmoy wrote probably over 150,000 in English. He also wrote about 8,000 songs on English and roughly14,000 in Bengali

Yes, the more a person knows the English language, the more he is known in the West.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on this forum thread. smile

Since you say your poems are translations of ones written by someone else, you should be giving credit to the poet in your articles. I see no mention of his name on your profile or on your articles that I’ve viewed.

A direct translation of his work, as your first sentence implies, would be problematic on this site.  Even if your work was inspired by Jibanananda Das rather being a direct translation of his work, as the rest of your post suggests, I think you should mention the source of your inspiration in your articles or at the very least on your profile.

It’s good that you’ve created a forum thread to pay homage to the writer, but I don’t think that’s enough. People who read your poems are unlikely to visit this forum.

I shall do something about it.

Thank you for your feedback. smile
