I just read this unique article which I wanted to share.

I have never heard of this custom, but I think it's wonderful.

    It's inspired me.

I enjoyed reading the article. Your post and the article reminded me that my family named our house when we lived in Britain. We called it "Lochinvar." I haven't thought about that since my childhood. Thanks for stimulating my memory.

      Hi Brenda!
An interesting and informative article about naming houses.
This is quite common in India. People name their houses thoughtfully, keeping in mind many factors. Names do have an impact in our lives, because each alphabet has some numerological significance. Sometimes, naming houses is inspired by the family member's name or even ancestors. The whole purpose is to bring happiness, peace and prosperity to the place, where we live.
Thank you for sharing Don and Brenda.

It sounds like everyone does this except the United States.

        I do love the idea.

Naming a house is so cool.
Made 9 tiny houses in the pass, mostly in central america. Some Latinos name their houses. My company is called
      :Castle without the Hassle:

I Own a house in Belize called the Hippy Hut. Build a Dome house called the Yellow submarine. House I'm building now is Bohemian Gypsy, now living in. From being a story teller sculptor for 45 year, these houses are my newer sculptures and purpose in life.

We have never named a house, but it sounds like a clever idea.  It would be fun to do for a rustic cabin, or a beach house.

Oh! It’s quite a common thing here. My house is called “Anamika” meaning “nameless” although it is a common name since it sounds good. Then a month back I saw a house named  “tin konna” meaning “three daughters”,  my neighbour's house is called “ Assalamualaikum” meaning may peace be upon you and I can go on with the list. Before the practice here was to buy lands and the landowner used to build his own house and own the entire building and if needed he used to give away some of the floors for rent. Nowadays people buy apartments and all such buildings have names along with the number assigned. Numbers are hard to remember, so this makes it easier to locate the houses in case you cannot locate or remember the number plus you feel a sort of attachment to the place as well.

I enjoyed that article. House and property names are quite common in Australia, maybe not as much as Britain though. We called our rural 40 acre property ‘The Haven’ and because we had to move to town are considering naming our house the same…just have to get a sign made. Many house names here are plays on words or the owners names like ‘Eventim’ etc.

I just never thought about naming a house or dwelling where one lives, but I absolutely love the idea.

Thanks for sharing this article. I've thought about naming our house for years, but never did it. We're in a subdivision with all the houses in plain view from the street, so it didn't seem right to put a sign at the end of the driveway. Also, I don't know what we would name it. Will have to think about it more.
