Rumi ~ a poet who says a lot in few words

    I believe, very few poets say as much, in as few words, as Rumi. In this one line he captured a lifetime of profound spiritual teaching. 

    "Close your eyes, fall in love, stay there." - Rumi

    That is exactly correct! So true! The amount of love I am willing to give is exactly proportional to how much I love myself. Respect and love what you have right now. Thank yourself and be gentle towards yourself.

    Being kind to and loving yourself is not selfish; it is self-love. It is not the same as being selfish. Someone who can't love himself, I believe, can't love anyone else in the world.

    So, let's fall in love with ourselves and be gentle with ourselves.

    I've decided to fall madly in love with my life, with myself. I am capable of dealing with anything that comes my way.

    Self love versus selfishness. Thanks for pointing out that they are different. I like Rumi's counsel to stay there where the real love is. Let's not get distracted and move away.

    Misbah, thank you for sharing A little of Rumi’s wisdom. It isn’t always love everything about ourselves, but it tends to follow that what we dislike most in others are the things we hate most about ourselves. We need to accept, first our own failings, and then to forgive those traits we see in others.
    MsDora’s words are very wise also.
