Take the time to read Ann's excellent short story as a response to Bill Holland's challenge. It is such a timely story as to what it happening in our world.
Hi Ann, I actually read your short story twice to get a clear idea of how it flowed, paying particular attention to the art of writing and creating scenes, which fellow writers found so commendable.
I wasn't into writing all my life. My field of expertise is Computer Sc and Engg. And I have been a faculty member of a private university in my city for years. I had taken breaks from the university for higher education abroad. But then things happen and I had to leave my job.
It was then I thought of online work and writing. And I know if I am serious about it, I have to learn the art. But then lots of opportunities are there, and I have to go the direction my heart tells me to.
Thank you for your your excellent write-up, Ann.
This is an very relevant story, Ann, and expertly written as we come to expect from you. A perfect response to Bill’s challenge. Thank you for sharing, Pamela.
I responded via email; my natural dislike for the forums continues. What I told Ann is that this is how a short story is supposed to be written, an excellent example of setting the scene, building suspense, and creating interesting characters. Bravo, Ann!
The link to Ann's hopeful story is here: https://discover.hubpages.com/literatur … The-Friend The brave people of Ukraine who are fighting against all odds are to be lauded. What those young and old alike are suffering is horrendous! Many of those scars, assuming they live, will last their entire lives. Let's pray that they find some solace as they rebuild what has been tragically lost.
A vey touching story, Ann, relevant to the present times. You have brought out horrors of war very well, especially the effect it has on innocent children, who have been robbed of the joya of childhood prematurely and for no fault of theirs. Thanks Pamela for sharing.
Thanks to Pamela for posting my story and to all of you for your kind comments.
The situation in Ukraine continues to worry us all deeply, and Europe is in a state of shock to think that this is happening again on our borders. Russia continues to lie about their actions whilst their horrendous assaults on innocent people escalate. I don't understand - but then you can't reason with a madman.
I pray that the UN or suchlike will find a way out of it all but I'm not holding my breath.
It's difficult to find posts in the forum and I did not get any notification of this, so apologies if I don't respond sometimes. It's confusing and takes up so much time! The comments facility was quick, much more personal, and great impulsive feedback.
I don't like posting fiction on HP any more and will be withdrawing this article soon, to move it to another site. I published it here as a response to Bill's final challenge but that's the last time any of my fiction will be on HP - The Creative Exiles is now my site of choice. Feedback is there and many old friends too!
