A heart- felt and sad poem by Brenda.

Christmas can be one of the saddest and loneliest times of year, Brenda, especially if we have recently lost loved ones. Lovely poem. My thoughts are with you.

      Thanks John...
      I appreciate your thoughts.

It's not the easiest time of the year, but this years unfortunate weather really made things sink in.

Alone..listening to to the water drip so the pipes don't freeze...
Not exactly the kind of Chistmas one remembers.

But the good memories ate there.

I suppose Christmas is a time when one looks towards that chair a bit more...
But I think those who have lost someone, know that not a day goes by when your mind doesn't think back...even if just for a few moments.

Brenda, I agree that what is lost, especially the near-and-dear whom we lose can never come back. This hurt rankles more during festive times. That is the tyranny of time that every human being must endure at some point.

But on the other hand, time is also the greatest healer and leveller. Time makes us forget our wounds and sorrows and shows us the path to new beginnings. I hope with all my heart that you start afresh with a new beginning and purpose in the new year. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Thanks, John, for sharing Brenda's heartfelt poem.

      Thanks Ravi...
They say time is the great healer, but I think it only enables us to learn how to live with our heartaches.

This season the nasty weather forced many of us to be stuck inside alone...thus not a very festive season.

It was so cold in my family room that we couldn't even sit and watch the Christmas tree....
But fortunately we are okay & that is what counts.

It's okay to grieve a bit over a lost loved one especially during the festive season. But make sure you set your foot in the new year with grace, spirit and fresh vigor. I am sure you will make it. Ravi has given some excellent advice, and I agree with him that time is a great healer. Just take it one day at a time, which you usually do.

Blessings and hugs. I hope despite everything, you had a wonderful Christmas even with your fur babies, Brenda.

Thank you, John, for posting her very touching poetry.

      Rosina...
      The furbabies are great.

They didn't like sitting in another room either...but we did what we had to do.

The loneliness seemed to surround the room...but nothing was normal...not even for the kittys.

The new year will hopefully bring a better light.

This is a beautiful, very touching poem, Brenda. I know the holidays are the toughest time. I think of you often. I like Rosina's advice for the new year. I like Ravi's comments also I wish you the best for the new year.

Thanks for posting Brenda's poem, John.

      Pamela...
      Thank you.

One always looks at the empty chair.

I suppose that's just natural to do...but the unnatural weather simply added to it.

I hope you had a great Christmas.

My sympathies to you, Brenda. Losing a loved one can be horrible, especially when the loss is recent or at certain times of the year. People who believe that we exist in some form after death—as I know you do—have a belief that may be supportive. The loss of the loved one is painful, but at the same time there is hope (or certainty) that we will meet them again. I hope this is the case for you.

      Linda...
      Thank you.

I do believe, but at certain moments in life...one still misses the one who is no longer in our presence.

I guess that's part of being human and having a compassionate heart.

I often wonder what it will be like to see & recognize the ones who have gone before us...since we're no longer in our human form.

      That idea...is something totally different.

      Have a great day.

Those empty chairs can only be filled with memories (hopefully happy ones) when our loved ones have passed on.  Thanks John for sharing Brenda's poem.  Sending virtual hugs to you, Brenda.  Those first holidays, birthdays, etc. can be really hard.

      Peggy...
      Thank you.

The memories definitely get one through...although this year was certainly different with the impending weather forcing me to shelter in a different room without Christmas tree or decorations...
      I did survive.

I didn't however cook this year...even though I had bought everything.

Thank you, Brenda for expressing so well the achy feeling that so many of us feel. The empty chair is a fitting symbol for the departed person. They're absent in reality, but not in our hearts and minds. John, thank you for the link. Let's be intentional about cheering up a bereaved person during the holidays.

      Ms Dora...
The empty chair is a good way to describe these feelings...because I honestly think we look at that chair as a natural habit.

We humans are set in our ways & when that cycle is disrupted...sadness follows.

Many people face changes like this one...I'm not alone...but when you are forced to stay inside due to the weather...it makes it a bit more lonelier.

    Hello Brenda!
Your sad state of mind is so well expressed in your heartfelt poem. It’s so easy to say, move on, but it’s so difficult to do so.
My deepest thoughts are with you, and I want you to be happy.
Thank you for expressing your thoughts. That’s the only way to lighten ourselves.
Take care and I wish you happy times ahead.
Thank you for sharing this John.

      Thank you so much Chitrangada.

This time Christmas was not like anyone expected...and missing Ron became much harder.

      I'm okay.  Life moves forward.

      Thank you for your kindness.

This would have been such a tough time for you (and your fur babies) Brenda. Being confined to one room, all alone,  not even being able to access the Christmas tree, or to cook for Christmas dinner. I guess life throws us these so called curve balls, but you have survived the worst of it I hope…and become stringer for it. I hope things improve for you from now on. You deserve it.

Thank you so much John for your heartfelt thoughts.

It wasn't what I had imagined and it was very difficult, but like you say...it will make me stronger.

I really feel for the people in Buffalo New York who got 4 feet of snow.

I hope Janis's family is okay.

      Thank you again...and I will survive..hopefully.

Yes, Brenda, everybody is okay. That is what counts. Yes, the weather made an unpleasant christmas, but at the end of the day, the festive spirit and the fact that our near-and-dear ones have not suffered much gives us something to cheer about, I beleve. Take care.

It is a blessing that people survived this weather.

The festive spirit lives on within our hearts...
The important thing is that we count our blessings.
