Read this very interesting article by Rupert showing there are even scammers in the field of poetry.

This was an interesting read, Rupert. Being Aussie, I have certainly heard of the Ern Malley fraud. Well, it did prove a point.

This is another interesting article written by Rupert. Towards the end, he discusses artificial intelligence. That situation is worrying. I have seen poems created by AI.

I believe that a poet’s intentions in the contents of their poem are very important. I also believe that at least to some extent, a reader’s interpretation of a poem is also important in its meaning. The overall meaning of the poem is a combination of two human minds at work. We will miss this when a poem is created by a computer.

Thanks John. I confess I do not understand poetry, especially of the avant garde genre. Seems like gibberish to me.

A lot of it is gibberish, Rupert.

Thanks for your kind words Linda.

I feel a bit like a Luddite in complaining about AI. It's the same issue, advancements displacing traditional work.

    Rupert...
I really hadn't heard of this...but I suppose the verses are still worthy poetry, except the ones that words were inserted into older poems.

Why would anyone do this?  Why not write with one's real name and get the credit.

As for the AI...that is disturbing.   I would hope a real poet's work would stand out more often.

    Brenda

I am baffled by what is called poetry these days. My wife and I were watching a program recently when James Fenton read his "poem" The Skip. When he finished we turned to each other and said "Huh?" There were some very smart people on the show who "oohed" and "aahed" about how wonderful the poem was, but it left us both mystified.

I am reminded that many years ago, a very good friend once entered a poetry contest. He wrote a piece of gibberish in 20 minutes and won first prize. He intended his poem to be nonsense but the judges took it seriously.

So, as I say, poetry leaves me perplexed.
