Depending on where you live (weather) and how much sun/shade your patio has there are some great patio plants.
We have had a lot of luck with: Hot Peppers, Tomatoes, Herbs, Squash, Gourds, Egg Plant, Celery, Lemmon Grass, Cabbage and Ginger.
Not as much luck with Carrots, Garlic, Onions or Peas but I think that was more to do with the lack of water then anything.

Basil, cilantro, jalepena peppers, lime tree, lemon tree.

Do you container garden? If yes, how many times a year do you fertilize tomatoes or peppers?What kind of containers do well with tomatoes or peppers? I also want to do a herb garden on my balcony. I love fresh erbs in my food. My neighbour plants lettuce in a window box and it does quite well.
