What type of soil do you have? What type of area are you referring to? Where are the trees planted? There are many unanswered questions to your question... I suppose a bit more info would be pertinent. Best wishes to you in resolving your problem.

Lol, you are exactly right. Nothing grows - they have ruined the yard!!! Someone said something about the chemicals they give off into the ground but can't really seem to find any information on it. I have a very large lot and it's making it very hard for me to do any landscaping on it.
