I have a Hub "Why A Microwave Oven Is Good For Cooking Food." This oven uses microwaves, seventh in the ladder of electromagnetic waves in the spectrum. The visible light is fifth, meaning microwaves are safer for woman/man than visible light to which we are always exposed. The waves are absorbed by the food. Waves agitate the electrons of the food that generate heat as they move very fast. So generation of heat is unlike convection. A microwave oven cooks much faster than a conventional oven.

The reason the presence of water is necessary, is because the mag tube causes the hydrogen molecules in water to spin. They collide causing friction. Friction creates heat. All water has been extracted from certain plates and accessories. Hence an item is microwave safe.
