What garden or household pests do you find beautiful?
Garden or house pests are annoying-- but can be stunning..
I just took this photo of Japanese beetles eating one of our willow trees. I am trying to get rid of the beetles, but at the same time have been taking lots of photos of these gorgeous creatures.
What some people deem beautiful others see as ugly. I think most creatures have some pleasing features and all of them up close are fascinating - in terms of colour, design and the way they move.
Spiders are a good example. They do good work eating up flies and such but when you see them in the house sometimes scurrying around you think...must get rid of that hairy ugly thing. I'll squash it with a newspaper.
But if that spider could speak it would tell you of it's silk production when it spins a fantastic web, of the eyes it has for specialised vision, of the brain it needs to coordinate eight legs and of an incredible mating routine!
Your beetles are wonderful but sometimes when a plague of creatures occurs, you've got to act to save your plants and vegetables and sanity!
I agree with chef....beauty can be found in all the creepy crawlers!
I love spiders (except jumping spiders) and leave them alone in the house or take the big ones outside. I've been bitten twice but they still don't bother me-- but the giant moths.. eek. I've been working on the beetle problem. Difficult.
I am always thrilled when I walk out to my garden early on the dewy mornings and find water droplets on the banana spider's web. Not only is the funnel web uniques and beautiful, but the yellow markings against the black on the spirder are striking! Beyond that, I adore the blue and green dragonflys!
I love funnel webs-- I haven't seen any recently, but probably because I don't walk overland to school early in the morning anymore. Beautiful..
I think Lacewings are beautiful. They always make me think of green fairies (I'm sure Van Gogh thought the same when he was 'chasing' them, lol).
I'm not sure what Lacewings are--I will look them up. Probably easier than finding Absinthe these days! When my son was about four he ran to drag me into the garden, really excited. "Look, fairies!" Ahh, fireflies. Very cool.
the praying mantis..............................it's really cool!!!!!
They are very cool and strange with their slow movements...
I am not really fond of most insects, but I love ladybugs (I guess they would count as pests?).
lady bugs, butterflies, and bees...they are pretty but do i want any crawling or near me, no. lol
I love lady bugs and butterflies. I planted some milkweed to try and attract the monarch butterflies to our yard. Works great. I love seeing all of the different colors. I don't mind other bugs, but don't give me a roach anywhere close.
When seen through my camera lens, I am amazed by the beauty of all insects and pests. I have been fortunate enough, or perhaps unlucky enough, to attract many types of insects and spiders over the past year to photograph. My children and my cat are willing helpers in finding them for me!
If interested, you can browse some of my photos on RedGage. You will find me as SparkleChi there also. www.redgage.com/SparkleChi
The kid next door. He's like Dennis the Menace. Laughing and shouting and constantly kicking his football over the fence, he's definitely a garden pest. However, I have to admit, he's beautiful.
