Would you rather decorate your home with paintings or photographs?
Photographs!
You can imagine that looking at pictures taken just a couple of years back bring so many memories. I would any day look at those funny pictures to pep up my mood. And during the party season they can be great conversation starters. I would love to have an awesome profile picture of mine (a huge one), framed and one with my husband. Hmmmm just waiting for the right pose or the abstract picture at random that speaks volumes!
I love it! Memories are such important things. Imagine your life 20 years from now, with the photos that you have amassed. They truly are treasures.
Photographs are my choice. If someone painted one of my original photos and gave it to me, I would be thrilled. I prefe not to look at someone else's art on my walls every day when I can view my own family or creations. I think it makes a home more personal but then, I have always been a wayward warrior, a black sheep and round peg in a square hole. laugh
I wouldn't say that this is anything odd. I understand completely.
Definitely paintings, lithographs, watercolours, etc, the older the better. I have complete walls covered with them, from the top of the sofa level up to the ceiling Anything goes : landscapes, architectural prints, painted portraits, English hunting scenes etc. This being said, I wouldn't mind some beautiful black and white pictures from people such as Serge Doisneau or Ansel Adams, but in smaller rooms such as an entrance hall. Come to think of it I do have some enlarged sepia ancient postcards, which are photographs and I like them very much because of the period they depict
Wow, Austin, you have great taste. Had a friend that lived next to Ansel Adams in PA, imagine that?
Thank you ! I love nature and A. Adams was definitely a master of picturing it.
I would rather decorate my home with photographs. Since I don't paint the paintings would not be mine. They would be the creation of someone I did not share experiences with. Photos show images of the past. I have a photo of a moose that was taken on a canoe trip, photos of friends and family, photos of fish that I caught during fishing trips etc. Photos show my past as well as the past of my friends, family and family members that died before I was born. They are more meaningful to me than paintings.
Yes, personal pictures do mean a lot more to many people. I have them myself, plus, a nice framed print of birds in the mist that a friend gave me.
Both! Since I am an artist and a photographer I tend to stick with both! I love other peoples art work. I know some of my family who have had portraits painted of other family memeber so they could get the best of both worlds as well.
I can see why you like both, amanda-purr.
I'd say a healthy mix of both, although by photographs I'm not thinking of my own photos. It could be photos of beautiful place and all.

I check out many of the new hubs as they come across my Home page. I'm interested to see how many people use their own original work, how many correctly use and credit public domain photos, and how many are outright stealing photos from the Internet. When someone posts a professional looking photo...
