Do you live in climate where you can have a fire in the fireplace much of the time?

Yes. I live in Montana and except for July and August we get cooler temps., especially at night.  A good hot fire can be very comforting.

      duffsmom,
It's so nice to end the day with a crackling fire even if it was warm earlier. It's just so cozy. We love our fireplaces here in Michigan.
      Thanks,
      Lisa

I live in Seattle where it is rainy and dreary most months of the year, except for the prime summer months, which are short and go by quickly, but are so beautiful that it makes all the dreariness worth it.
Even in the summer, at night the temps drop and it's almost always a tad chilly at night.  During those times, and of course all throughout winter when it's rainy and dreary, having a fire in a fireplace is such a comforting, warming thing.  Most houses and apartments here have fireplaces, while no one has air conditioning.

      relawshe,
That's interesting that no one has air conditioning. I can see though that it is a good idea to have fires most of the time there in Seattle. In the movies it seems like you would need a fire because they always film in the rain.
      Thanks
      Lis

I live in Pennsylvania and here it is the 13th of May and we have a fire going to stay warm.  We normally don't get this cold for Mother's Day, but yesterday we had ice and snow with a few flurries out there yet this morning. Winter does not want to leave. Everyone who lives here are tired of it. Can you imagine what the little hummingbirds who just got here a couple weeks ago must think?

      Diana Lee,
I know what you're saying. I live in Michigan and we had a fire going on Mother's Day too. It's still cold, and I'm sure the hummingbirds are all sticking together to stay as warm as they can.
      Thanks,
      Lisa

I'm in New England so like duffsmom said below, evenings tend to get cool year round so most months are appropriate for having a fire.  Mostly they're a fall, winter thing indoors, and lots of people have firepits or do outdoor fires in the summer.
