how long does it take to recieve section 8?as a single mom i need it as soon as possible.
I know many people who receive Section 8 help in my hometown and on average they were on a waiting list for 8-12 months and some even longer. From what I hear they classify you by need and push back the people with less of a need. Of course with all things government their definition of need may be completely different than reality.
You can expect to wait about a year. It's unfortunate that it takes so long. However, they do sort people based on need -- the more you need help, the less you wait.
Usually up to 2 years. You may not want to rely on this and try to find another way to make due temporarily.
In Ohio, the wait-time for the last deacade has been 18 months to 2 years. Same thing with Senior Housing (age 62 and over).
