Are the days of being proud of hardwork over with?
i find people are getting lazy and everyone seems to want lots of education so they can get easier jobs, but how come a hardworking person isn't given the same respect as an office employee?
Office employees can also be hardworking. People who are into handwork will always get the respect they deserve if they know how to do their thing. There are so many people that have made their marks in Handwork, and more are going to do the same.
With the current administration in power, the message they send is WHY BOTHER??!! This enormous BO gov will give any and every thing possible to those too lazy to work while also lambasting the achievers as evil and heartless. For me, I will NEVER stop working because I don't want crap from the gov other than security.
Now, if the actual thrust of your question was why the folks who do the actual physically demanding work are less respected, that has to do with the mindset of the educated and elitist snobs. I am a teacher, and therefore a college grad, but I treat the custodians at my school the same way I treat the cooks and the other teachers, respectfully. I also think it is a disservice to our kids to try and FORCE them all to attend college. There are plenty of careers (plumber, mechanic, electrician) that do NOT require a four-year degree. College is not for everyone.
I do not understand why people think you have to have a blue collar job to be a hard worker. I went to college and earned a masters degree so I could work in a field that interested me. I am proud of what I do and feel that I work hard every day to try to provide excellent services to the people I deal with.
I work for a local government, so on top of the normal flak I hear, I get to listen to all the politicians tell me how government workers are the problem and not the solution. It gets to be pretty depressing at times to be constantly put down by people who have no idea what I do every day.
I have worked a variety of jobs in my life including factory work. I try to treat every one I come meet with the same level of respect. I understand that working all day in a non-office job is more physically demanding than an office job. I do not think that makes it any more or less valuable than other jobs though.
The world is a corrupt place that is quickly spiraling down the drain...
Most NFL players make more then doctors, police officers and firemen combined. The NFL is now on lock down because they simply over payed these men to play a "game"?
Look at the world. The more you have to work, the less you get payed. Doctors are the only ones who get great money, but that's only because the pharmacy pulls in billions a year on tricking people into taking their poison.
Factor workers are considered rats, but if it wasn't for their hard work and labor, the men and women up top wouldn't have a job.
We live in a backwards world. The free are really enslaved, the hard labor jobs get paid the least, you can't eat a healthy diet without enough money to spend...
It comes down to the kids. They see this and say why bother. You need money to be healthy, have a nice car a nice home, ect. but it takes money to get there. People have to pay so much money to go to college for a "chance" at landing their dream job, if and when they get this job, they spend years and years paying their college tuition off. Once its payed off they have to pay off the house, the car and now for their kids to go to school.
The rich want to get richer while keeping everyone else. poor. Its not a matter of being lazy... People just simply give up.
in the 1960's 50% workers were physical labor - now in USA it's a whole lot less - and yeah the smell of hard work is now looked down on by office workers, but older people still respect a person sweating out a wage.
For example: the Honoluolu publice bus system was trying to pass a regulation so that if a person smelled bad - then not allowed on the bus! People wrote in about how stupid this is and how they remembered the fishermen coming home on the bus and that day old sweat was a sign of WORK.
Not all people believe this - Brahmin Hindus DESPISE doing anything with the hands because it's a sign of a lower caste and look down on anybody wielding a tool - even if your are a highly skilled at what you do.
I agree with you to a certain level, actually in this era technology has made many things easy for you, so people now love to manage things rather than do things by themselves as they are used to of automation.
People now prefer to buy things via internet rather than going to a physical store, so technology has made things easy & so have the habits of people have changed.
It should not be nor should it ever be overwith. Without the hard work of our American citizens, we would not have the life we have. We built the buildings, the roads, our homes, our cars, everything in our homes. So much more that I could list, but it would be a book.
I think people in general are selfish and out for themselves. It is not the fact that hard work is not respected. It is more of the fact that people are too busy admiring themselves to even know what is going on around them. That's just human nature.

It has got to be an employer's market, a cousin of mine called and said that he got a job. The employer said that he was to work part time and was expected to be on call virtually at all times the store was open. Of course, no benefits outside the crappy compensation. What the hell is going on...

Why do gays have to come out? why do they need to tell everyone?I get fed up hearing about gay rights, gay whatever.I don't find the need to tell everyone around me that I'm not gay; I doubt if anyone cares, so why do they make such a song and dance about it?

When Senator MCCain announced that he was going to have a female running mate, I was elated. What an election we were going to have. A female and a black male running for the highest office in the land. And now a republican has chosen a female as his running mate. When Sarah Palin...

Why are teenagers so rude these days?Is it just me or do teenagers these days seem pushy and obnoxious? I was trying to get into the grocery store and there was about 5 of them standing in front of the door and I stopped and expected them to move, but one of them turned and just looked at me like...

What does proud to be an American mean to you? Before someone gets all in a tither by just saying "America"...I'm referencing the United States of America. Although I am a devoted "American" citizen, I am also proud of my heritage which happens to be Scottish and English....
