   Should O'bama have accepted the resignation of CIA Director Petraeus for an extramarital affair?
   
   President O'bama recently accepted the resignation of CIA Director Petraeus for his admission of having an extramarital affair.  The Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Diane Feinstein is quoted as saying she wishes O'bama hadn't accepted the resignation.  What do you think?

   I don't think that any extramarital affair is within the purvue of a job related evaluation. I don't know why Patraeus felt that he had to offer a resignation if the President did not demand it himself. Is there something that I missed in the story?

   Of course he should. General Petraeus is in a position that can not be trivialized like this. Having an affair draws the wrong kind of attention to the CIA, and makes the administration in general look bad. The General did the right thing to resign, and President Obama made the right decision to accept it.

   I think many would consider it unacceptable for a person in his position, the head of national intelligence, to be emotionally compromised in such a manner, so I don't really see there being a choice.
   
   Alternatively, him attempting to stay on would likely require a fairly detailed investigation that he (and/or his mistress) would not want to undergo, so he may not have wanted to stay, even if it where an option.
   
   Whole thing is fishy if you ask me. It could have nothing to do with an affair, but that is something we might never know.

   Extra marital affair is kind of corruption. It can percoalate down to the very critical issue of nations security. Those who are at sensitive and senior positions must have moral authority.
   It is good decision that Barack Hussain Obama accepted his resignation.

   What if Patraeus 's girlfriend is acting  as a spy and passing on  crucial information to say China due  to  her intimacy with  Patraeus ? One  should never take  chances with such  matters. Obama has done  the right thing in accepting the resignation offer of Patraeus . But there may be  some other reason as to why Patraeus offered to resign in the first place. Moreover even  if the resignation letter is accepted and Patraeus  is relieved of his responsibility, the danger is still there that Patraeus  may pass on or  already passed  on vital information  to China.

   If this guy was the Head of White House Sandwich Making his extra marital affair might not have made headlines but director of the CIA? Come on. If General Petraeus was worth his salt his little secret would never have got out but being discovered shows a fatal weakness - either he wanted the affair made public or someone close to him got wind of his indiscretion and leaked the info.
   
   The whole story is a shady farce and could put many innocent people in potentially dangerous situations. Imagine the confidential information the General is exposed to on a daily basis! Did his mistress know how senior a figure he was? If not he must have lied like hell to keep it from her. If she knew and he knew she knew the more fool him. Not much intelligence shown either way. Yet they say military intelligence is a lower life form don't they? Especially when caught with pants down.
   
   Was he pushed or did he jump? Seems he had no choice. Obama did good.

    You know, Paul......I tried to consider myself in the position of the Prez, in this particular situation.  Obviously, THAT was wasted energy!   This is a matter of Political importance and I'm sure there is a strong protocol in force....to say nothing of all the "advisers," explaining what should be, could be, must be done.
    Since it appears Petraeus has submitted his resignation, what purpose could it serve for Obama to reject it?   Also, should we consider the fact that Petraeus may have been "ordered" to resign, by his Superiors......he does have superiors, doesn't he?
    The situation is sad, of course, as they always are in these cases.  Far too many valuable & brilliant men have been shot down with their own gun..........I'd like to know what YOU think.

       Paula, considering all of the info that have already come out in the press, Obama had no choice but to accept the resignation.  It's troubling that Petraeus had to be asked by his superior to resign.

    I wished Obama would not have accepted his resignation since I believe Dir. Petraeus is being set up to be the fall guy for anything that has gone wrong during his command. 
    
    I wonder why all this commotion did not arise when former Pres Clinton was also caught in an affair.

       If Obama had not accepted Patraeus' resignation, Patraeus should have been relieved from his duties and had all of his security clearances suspended pending a detailed review.  There was commotion with the impeachment proceeding against Clinton.
