Will the fallout from Ted Cruz's speech at the RNC Convention have an effect on how people vote...
or is Trump HIS OWN WORST ENEMY for having accused Senator Ted Cruz’s father of associating with Lee Harvey Oswald; making disparaging remarks about Cruz's wife and for having falsely accused Cruz's father of having ties to Castro, and for never having apologized to him? Ted Cruz actually gave an excellent speech, but did not specifically "endorse" Trump per se. And in usual form, Trump tweeted disparaging remarks about Cruz afterward. What are your thoughts on this entire situation? Do you support Trump or Senator Cruz?
I don't know how much of an impact Cruz's speech will have on discouraging people from voting for Trump, but I suspect that those who aren't going to vote for him have already made up their minds. So in that regard, yes, Trump IS his own worst enemy.
One third of Republican voters are on the fence. I was ready to vote for Trump until I witnessed the disdain oozing from Ivanka Trump as well as the un-called for booing at the end of Cruz's excellent speech. So I disagree, partially.
Wow, really savy, you were on the fence? Okay, I stand corrected. I've not watched any of the convention, but have been getting snippets from the news, so I wasn't aware that Ivanka was so unappetizing; you're the first I've heard mention it.
Trump is brash and blunt. He doesn't suffer fools lightly. Recall Cruz' ad demeaning Mrs. Trump. Cruz' pledge to support the party nominee was the cause of the boos. He didn't.
False. Cruz did not demean Melania Trump, http://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2016 … act-check/
"Trump is brash and bold". Yes, and he's a child. He reminds me of kids back in elementary school: bullying, insulting, degrading. He's insulted leaders of foreign countries ALREADY for the love of Pete. Gosh, can't wait till he's in office.
Trump's ego is massive. I do like Pence, though....but he would be the VP---big difference, unless Trump hands him the job while he hobnobs with celebrities and such. Sigh. Wish I could believe in Trump, but he's not giving me enough reassurance...
My guess is that within a week or two most will have forgotten all about the speech Cruz made. By then there will be something new to talk and worry about. Even the Media will completely drop this if something better comes along.
Keep in mind that most of this stuff is just a big Circus Sideshow for our benefit. It seems it really doesn't matter anymore because not much of what they do will really benefit the citizens of this country.
But keep in mind that I dislike all politicians equally so I am probably not even qualified to even comment.
Perhaps so, but remember that before the Media even got involved, the audience booed Cruz. Then the media had a field day. Had Trump chosen to be gracious, he could have unified the party. In my opinion, Trump still owes Cruz some apologies.

What apologies are owed should be Cruz to Trump, and the republican party. What apologies are you talking about?
Ted Cruz and John Kasich couldn't even win in their own party. What the effect of Cruz and Kasich should tell us is that the 2 party system is at end of useful life.
We need a new political paradigm for our presidential elections. Ones that don't include political parties. They are not mentioned in the constitution, and both political parties and their loyal party voters are responsible for the continued decline of the US since the 1970s.
Nothing has changed for the better in the election process, and just look at the chadGate for example. Garbage in Garbage out. How can this flawed election process generate any positive change for its outcome to make the US stronger, and the people more prosperous.
This is a red herring to the real problems.
Trump is the only chance to change this years outcome for the better.
He was not part of the political politicians that made this country weak.
I cannot put as much faith in the unknown. Trump is a wildcard. Maybe he will deliver and maybe not. All I know is that I do not appreciate his penchant for humiliating people.
Trump may be the only chance to change this year's outcome, but I question whether it's for the better. The French wanted "change", and the revolution eventually went south - no principles to maintain it. Obummer was change.......
Senator Obama promised us change, and we got it, in Spades. Hillary is Obama 1.1 not even 2.0.
Humiliating people, isn't that what Cruz, Rubio, Kasich and Paul Ryan did with Trump. Hillary Clinton speeches are much more vicious than all the others.
Hxprof, I cringe at the word "change" only because that is what Obama promised.
Brad... Cruz, Kasick & Ryan did not humiliate Trump. Rather, they told the truth about him.

What Truth about Trump did any of them tell?
At this point my wife and I support Trump/Pence. Listen tonight 7/21/16, or read the Pence and Trump acceptance speeches to know what you will be getting next January. You already know what the US got with Obama/Biden/Clinton. If you want more of the same, vote for Mrs. C. You already know who she is and how she will perform. Right now she is an "entertainer" too. Scripted to woo the needed voters. When the chatter is over, we will be left with the political elite, or the brash outsider.
It was indeed "time for change" when Obama got the nod, and it is even more important that we get change now.
Enough is already too much.
I hear you and I was ready to vote for Trump because of Pence. Trump saw the speech beforehand. He knew what to expect. He could have turned this around in his favor. Cruz was there for the Party, even if he did not use Trump's name.
Yes Demas, we got change with Obummer, and it's been awful. Trump promises change also, and though I agree with a few of his policies, overall I believe him to be a dangerous road to change. Cruz was the far better choice for altering the landscape
Cruz and Kasich are both disgraceful&poor losers. The Republican Voters told them they wanted Trump. people are the party, but loyal party voters don't fair well against the party. choice now is Hillary or Trump. Hillary had her chance, dn do wel
Well, the choice for me is Trump, Clinton or Neither. I choose neither. I won't participate in helping to elect either unacceptable candidate. The 2 party system has indeed been our bane, and look where it's led us!
Hxprof
I don't know that the US can stand such scruples. Being a conscientious objector, how Bill Clinton.
How 'me' brad, how me. I've been like this long before Clinton claimed that mantle. If being an objector means rejecting 2 candidates who are unfit for office, then that's ME.

What is your opinion of Ted Cruz's speech yesterday at the GOP convention?Did you like or dislike his speech and why?
by savvydating 6 years ago
Is Ted Cruz more of a jerk than an effective statesman? Why or why not? What is your opinion of him?Cruz is apparently hated by many in his own Party. Is he a mere opportunist or is he a patriot? The words of Franklin Roosevelt come to mind: "They are unanimous in their hate for...

Is it time to consider a coalition government? It is my opinion that neither party, Democrat or Republican, can win a national election with just their base. Both parties need some part of the Independent or undecided vote to gain an election victory. The far Left seems to think that only they know...

Rubio just dropped out of the race after losing Florida - how long until Cruz and Kasich follow? And then there were three......Kasich is next I assume.

Republicans feign outrage over Biden's recent comments? It's enough to make you dizzy, isn't it? Here we have evidence of Republicans routinely calling Democrats fascists (and communists and even pedophiles etc.) yet they are, once again having a hissy fit over Biden using the same word to describe...

I believe that Trump is his own worst enemy. (I want to stress believe). He is driven by his malignant narcissism and his need to be a Master con-artist. Almost every problem he has, he created himself. He thinks he is above the law, but in fact, he is an outlaw. He stole highly classified...
